Lap siding is supplied in a variety of siding options like green (unseasoned), or dry in clear or knotty grades and with a smooth or saw textured face. One popular type of cedar lap siding is channel siding. This wood siding can be installed vertically, horizontally or diagonally. With channel siding, the profile of each board partially overlaps that of the board next to it creating a channel that gives shadow line effects. This also provides excellent weather protection and allows for dimensional movement. Channel siding is used whenever a rustic appearance is desired.
Channel Siding Grades
Grades for this exterior siding include Clear Heart, A Clear, C and Better Clear, Select Knotty, Proprietary, and Standard and Better.
- Clear Heart
This is highest grade for wood house siding. It includes only pieces with heartwood on the exposed face. Many pieces are completely clear, others have minor imperfections that do not detract from their fine appearance.
- A Clear
This home siding grade permits somewhat more imperfections than Clear Heart, but the grade is still restricted to pieces with excellent appearance.
- Select Knotty
Select Knotty grade is available kiln dried or unseasoned. Knots are sound and tight.
- Proprietary Grades
Designed to meet appearance requirements for cedar sidings and trim.
- Standard and Better
Suitable for exterior construction. Occasional pieces may require trimming to yield suitable quality for the intended end use.
