Job Description
Safely and efficiently schedule and dispatch delivery orders and credit returns.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Efficiently schedule delivery orders and credit returns
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with customers and employees
  • Professional and timely communication using both phone and email
  • Apply for “over-length” and “over-weight” permits
  • Remain current on changing Federal and State laws in regards to interstate commerce and the operation of commercial motor vehicle
  • Ensure that appropriate paperwork is completed as per company policy
  • Ensure the daily safety audit of forklifts and trucks are performed and any malfunctioning equipment is promptly reported
  • Assist Driver’s Safety Committee in accident investigation
  • Assist Director of Material Distribution in maintaining a safe, efficient and well-kept fleet
  • Assist Driver Trainer in maintaining a safe, efficient and well-trained staff of truck drivers
  • Assist customers when necessary

Qualifications and Skills

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent helpful
  • Commercial Driver’s License helpful
  • Knowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices and protocols
  • Knowledge of dimension lumber and panel products and other building materials
  • Ability to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy work environment
  • Knowledge of the general principles of effective leadership and supervision, including Company procedures, policies and protocols
  • Knowledge of dispatching and fleet management principles, practices and protocols
  • Knowledge of dimension lumber and panel products and other building materials
  • Knowledge of home and commercial construction principles, practices and protocols
  • Ability to read and interpret maps
  • Strong supervisory and interpersonal communication skills and experience dealing with employees and customers required
  • Ability to independently prioritize work and manage time effectively
  • Ability to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy environment
  • Ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to daily changing needs/demands of the yard
  • Willingness to share department responsibilities in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to effectively supervise and motivate employees
  • Ability to work unsupervised and a desire for high level of responsibility
  • Must be tolerant of co-workers, knowing that honest mistakes will be made

Requirements

  • Ability to pass pre-placement physical and physical capacities examination
  • Must be able to lift up to 90 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to stoop, bend, walk and effectively communicate at levels normal for someone performing work with the general public primarily in a retail sales environment. Communication forms can include but are not limited to: in-person verbal and non-verbal, written and telephone.
