Job Description
Lumber Yard Associate is responsible for providing excellent customer service, safely and efficiently load customer vehicles with building materials, maintain yard cleanliness and stock inventory. This position reports to the Yard Manager and works closely with external and internal customers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist all customers
  • Safely, accurately and efficiently load customer vehicles with orders of building materials
  • Ensure that appropriate paperwork is completed as per company policy
  • Receive delivered inventory by properly inspecting paperwork for accuracy and by depositing inventory in designated locations
  • Maintain yard cleanliness during course of work
  • Check all paperwork for accuracy
  • Perform daily safety audit of forklift and promptly report any malfunctioning equipment
  • Promptly report all accidents/incidents and damaged products
  • As time allows and when needed, load and off-load delivery trucks both by hand and with a forklift

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • OSHA Certified Forklift License preferred
  • Knowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices and protocols
  • Knowledge of dimension lumber and panel products and other building materials
  • Ability to read and interpret “picking tickets” and invoices
  • Ability to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy work environment
  • General knowledge and use of power tools
  • Ability to work cordially, professionally, diplomatically and with a high level of customer service in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in dealing with sensitive business matters with internal and external customers of all types. Must maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all information related to company finance and records, particularly, cost of goods purchased and sold.
  • Demonstrate positive interactions with the public, and positive interpersonal relations in dealing with fellow employees, supervisors, and other department employees, so that productivity and positive employee relations are maximized
  • Support and contribute to effective safety and risk management efforts by adhering to established policies and procedures, maintaining a safe environment, promoting accident prevention, and identifying and reporting potential liabilities
  • Ability and willingness to identify processes, tools and/or procedures that may be improved upon in an effort to improve the workplace and outcomes for our customers
