If you ever wanted to sleep in your van, here’s an interesting DIY project idea: build a sofa bed that also serves as storage. We found these photos on Pinterest. There are no step-by-step instructions, but the photos give you a rough idea what you need to do. After you’re done building and securing the sofa bed to the van, all you need is a futon mattress for a comfortable night’s sleep.

The Portland Fall Home and Garden Show will take place October 2-5, 2014 at the Portland Expo Center. Come see us at the Serving Up Style exhibit. General admission is $10 (free for children 12 and under). However, you can print the coupon below for $2 off. The coupon is good only for Thursday and Friday. The 2014 Street of Dreams will open this Saturday (July 26th) in Happy Valley, Oregon. This year’s event features five gorgeous homes. Each home is unique, from traditional, to craftsman, to Mediterranean and Asian inspired. The home prices range from $850,000 to $1.5 million. The event is open daily from 10am to 9pm (tickets sold until 7:30 pm). The last day of the show is Sunday, August 24th. Admission to the Street of Dreams is $15 for adults. A child from a low-income family enters first grade with an average of only 25 hours of one-to-one picture book reading. Compare this with 1,000 to 1,700 hours for a child from a typical middle-class home. That’s why from now until August 30th, Parr Lumber is collecting used and new books at our Portland metro area stores (see list below). The books will be given to the Children’s Book Bank. The donated books will then be distributed to children whom normally cannot afford books.
